Once the wastewater inside the tank reaches a specific level, the pump will turn on, grind the waste into a fine slurry, and pump it to the central sewer system or septic tank. There are two types of grinder pumps, semi-positive displacement and centrifugal. Grinder pumps are a type of submersible sewage (septic) pump that has cutting teeth incorporated onto the impeller to grind the sewage for pressure sewer applications.
